Sylvia. is the founding owner and Principal of her own private music school, and the proceeds from Sylvia.'s music go to continue the growth of her school. The Sylke Music School serves all ages in quality, one-on-one, individualized, music instruction, to preschool and school age children, teens and adolescents, adults and older people. The school also has a Scholarship Research Instructional Program for Everyone, (SRIPE), and a Neuropathy Arts Program for All Ages (NAPAA). As Sylvia. continues developing her Dissertation of The Importance of Music Education in Schools for her Doctoral of Education Degree at Concordia University Chicago, she intends to also continue the growth of her music school.
Sylvia. has performed as the sole singer of Spirituals, in her featured One Woman Show of a cappella singing and drama, Long Dusty Road, which she wrote and sang throughout the East Coast of the United States, in churches, theaters, schools and halls, while she was going to college. Sylvia. was also the lead vocalist of various chorus groups that perform traditional, folk and classical music, as well as gospel choirs and singing groups. As lead vocalist and one of the keyboardists of the popular Reggae band, One People, who performed throughout the United States and Canada, with the explosive funk and rock sounds blended into Reggae by the band, Sylvia.'s strong Jazz vocals carried well with the band's big sound. Sylvia. continues to be an astonishing guest vocalist at the Cantab Lounge, where she performed every Sunday and Wednesday nights with the Fat Back Band (Candido Delgado on guitar, Lenny Bradford on bass, and Joe Bellomo on drums), for almost ten years.
Sylvia. has developed a unique vocal style which evolved from her work of many years with professionals in the music industry. Sylvia. has done professional recordings and performances with such acts as, The One People Reggae Band, The Africa Oyie Band, The Yonnell Justin Big Band from the Virgin Islands, The CMCB Jazz Ensemble, The Sonny Watson Jazz Quartet, The E-Water Urban Band, The Sylke Music Band, The YJ Production Band, The KC Project Band, The SKT Project, The Fat Back Band, The James Ali Band, Bubba Loaf, Miss Jake, The Joker, and her band, Live Band, who performs on Three Little Birds on the Lp. Sylvia. has also worked with producers and engineers such as, Rich Mendelson, Tom Waltz of Waltz Audio, Ray Fernandes of Butter Beats Recording, Eric Welsh of E-Man Music, and now more recently with Tim Lucas of Blink Music Studios in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Alex Allinson of The Bridge Sound and Stage, also in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Brad McCarthy of Stillpoint Sound in Brockton, Massachusetts.
Sylvia.'s sweet and tasty vocal style, songwriting, and piano playing, have really evolved into something special that is continuing to develop as she continues to write and release more music. Sylvia. contributes her sound to hearing the Spirituals she heard her Mother play when she was a child, the soulful sounds of her Father's voice and the Country music he frequently played, the rap music that her brother is known for doing so well throughout Europe, North Africa, and the United States, the R & B and Hip Hop music her sister can cut some serious dance moves to, the Reggae music she found, the Jazz music which found her, the music she sang in school, and in churches, including the church her Grandmother was Pastor and founded in South Carolina, and the music she studied and learned from all around the world.
Sylvia.'s second release is an Ep release that reveals her true sound in the natural way she delivers Jazz, the style of music that truly found her. Sylvia.'s LadyJazz Ep features Morton Hyams on clever piano accompaniment of, Peace, Moonlight in Vermont, Tenderly, Sophisticated Lady and Santa Baby, celebrating traditional Jazz, recorded in a traditional, two-track sound - lending service to such artists like Horace Silver, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Betty Carter, and Eartha Kitt.
Sylvia.'s many years of work with young children inspired her writing of the Planting Our Seeds and the Harvesting Our Crops Music Curricula albums for Young Children, which celebrate the Spring and Autumn Equinox. The beautiful guitar work of musicians Bob Ledwell and Brian Effinger on the second children's album, Harvesting Our Crops, together with Sylvia.'s piano playing, help to make these two children's albums special.
Sylvia.'s most recently released Jazz album, MoonGlow, is a fully complete work that is complimentary to Sylvia.'s talent and ambition as a professional musician. From the Cantab Lounge in Cambridge to Maggys Lounge in Quincy, Sylvia. has come full circle with the MoonGlow album.
Attributed to her good friend, Blues musician Elliott Johnson from the Cantab Lounge, Elliott introduced Sylvia. to Maggys Lounge in 2014, and five years later, the MoonGlow album was born.
MoonGlow is outstanding and features musicians great, Michael Angelo, Jack Arpano, Rich Kenneally, Isaac Lit, Dan Pappas, Rob Buttomer, Joe Folan, Andrew Hickman, and Bobby Hickman, and engineers Keith Asack and Tony Schultz, videographer Ron Rudy, and Technical Assistant Rajahnah Matra.
Thank you to everyone who helped to bring out the best in Autumn Leaves, Wave, East of the Sun (and West of the Moon), What a Little Moonlight Can Do, Lucky Najaar (an original tribute to Sylvia.'s cousin Lucky and her piano professor Craig Najaar who inspired Sylvia.'s piano playing), and Christmas Time is Here (recorded live on youtube - 452DudeChristmas).
